KATRINA DOGS & CATS FROM NEW ORLEANS

Before our main topic, we want to thank Mr. Paul Hayes of the Cloverdale/Idlewild Association for setting up the adoption day in Cloverdale even though Mother Nature rained us out. We look forward to rescheduling another Saturday adoption event a few weeks from now, so just watch for that announcement. Now - for all of the wonderful folks out there who wanted to help with Katrina animal victims, our time has come. Many of you may not realize that there are still animal welfare groups working in Louisiana and Mississippi to help the thousands of homeless animals still displaced and with no families to care for them. The Best Friends Animal Society is beginning to wrap up its operations in Louisiana and contacted shelters throughout the United States to help take in displaced and rescued dogs and cats in need of homes. On Thu, 16 Feb, our shelter took in eight adult dogs and 15 adult cats from New Orleans so we can do our part to help these unfortunate victims. The dogs range from Lab and Shepherd mixes, to a Rat Terrier, to a quite large Lhasa mix, and a very fat and sassy, 5 year old Retrieve/Lhasa type mix who came with pink bows in her ears. The cats are of all colors – most are short-haired and a few have medium length coats. Best Friends is doing extraordinary work there and these animals are now here looking for great Alabama homes to call their own. For those interested in adopting any of these animals come to our shelter at 255 Central Plank Road, Mon-Thu 10-3:30, Fri 10-5 and Sat 9-2. We will also get them posted to our website (www.elmorehumane.com) as soon as possible. For more information please contact our shelter at 334/567-3377 or email us at hselco@bellsouth.net.
