Hi Friends!
I wanted to send you the events we have scheduled so you can mark
your calendar. Please pass this information on to some of your
friends/family that may like to know what the shelter is planning in
2008.
Please go ahead and let me know if you are able to help with any of
these events. The sooner we get schedule of volunteers done the
better! (Less stress for us)
You can expect more events to be added later and I will resend an
updated events list as we add them. You can always look here on the
website,
Thank you for all your help & contributions to help the animals!!
If you are not a member of the shelter for 2008, I ask you to
consider becoming a member. The cost is minimal and the money helps
the shelter with the bills. If you would like more information,
please feel free to contact me, or you can also get details on the
website.
God Bless You All! I look forward to a wonderful year working along
side you, for the animals!! Please take one moment and send me a

Ongoing Volunteer Needs….
Almost every Saturday, 11 am – 4 pm – We need volunteers for
Prattville PETsMART to help us do adoptions. With two PETsMARTs in
our area ( Prattville & Montgomery ), we would really like to do
adoptions from both locations! Adoption paperwork would need to be
taught to volunteer.. If you are willing to learn this paperwork,
please let us know!
Every Thurs, Fri & Sat – our Tail’s End Thrift Store is open from
9am-3pm. We are looking for dedicated volunteers to help with the
operation of the store. If you want more information on this please
contact Charline Pope # 334-514-7088 or Ann Smith # 334-569-3040.
This store makes 100% profit for the shelter, since it is all
donations from our wonderful supporters and volunteers that run the
store!
Nursing home visits with pets from shelter. ---Volunteer would need
to be able to come to the shelter at around 9:50 am to pick up
two-three puppies and transport them to the Nursing Home in your
vehicle (they will be crated). Stay with them during the visit and
then bring the pups back to the shelter – usually takes no more than
45 minutes to an hour at the Nursing Home.
You can go with the volunteers to see if this is something you would
like to help with. The visits have to be pre-scheduled with the
nursing home staff, and put on their calendar in advance, so
volunteer will need to sign up a month ahead of visit, unless just
going along with volunteers already scheduled.
Right now we are visiting the Sunbridge Care & Rehab in Elmore on
the first Wed of every month.
For more details, please contact Charline Pope # 334-514-7088.
Please contact Charline (Charlie) Pope - Volunteer Coordinator for
the Humane Society of Elmore County
for more information or to volunteer for any of these events.

Artist Wanted! We are looking for a volunteer who can take on as their
volunteer activity for our shelter updating our Cherished Friends Wall
at the shelter.

Our Cherished Friends Wall was started by a wonderful lady named
Rebecca Carlisle who
left this earth far too young. This wall allows people to commemorate their
special pets for a $50 donation and is a wonderful addition to our office
and kennel walls.
This would only entail the volunteer coming in perhaps 4-6 times per year to
update names. You will have to be able to work from a ladder as some spots
are rather high on our walls. We have gotten behind on updating some of
these, so at first there would be a catch up of perhaps 12-15 names, but
then it generally entails just one or two a month at the most. We have most
of the paints which are acrylic and many animal stamps that Rebecca used to
make the spots that much more special. If you have that artistic talent
(much of the names are actually done using stencils) and think this is a way
you could help us please contact Rea at 334/567-3377 or send an email to
hselco@bellsouth.net. We not only love commemorating beloved pets in this
way, but want to keep this going in memory of Rebecca.

PetsMart Volunteers Needed!!
PETsMART: (Prattville & Montgomery)
We are looking for more volunteers to help, usually on a Saturday,
adopting
out shelter pups, dogs, kittens and cats from PetSmart. We are
generally there from 11-4 on Saturdays. We hope to start
doing Fridays as well, so if that works better for you, great!
This is a lot of fun and for those of us who might be suffering from a
little burn out, it is invigorating to see these needy "babies" go to great
homes. At PetSmart, people often end up lining up to get some of these
kids!
If you haven't done this
before, you will be paired with someone who has to learn the (easy)
paperwork and to start learning the answers to some of the common questions
folks have. There is a vet clinic in PetSmart and their staff is also
wonderful and very helpful.
If you
need information , or would like to volunteer for, please call or email
the shelter at 567-3377

PetSmart has proven to be a wonderful outlet for our critters. We are so
grateful to their commitment to helping the homeless animals. And it's just
a GREAT store too!

Our Humane Shelter has conducted Nursing Home visits with puppies
and kittens for many years now. We can only do this with the help of dedicated
volunteers who are able to commit to one morning each week to make this happen.
One of our most faithful volunteers has been Dawn Sullivan (in the maroon shirt
in these pictures) and she comes almost every Tuesday to take our pets to the
River Ridge Assisted Living Home in Wetumpka. We are sadly losing Dawn as she
moves to Tennessee later this year, but we know a very lucky humane shelter
there will surely benefit from her love for animals and willing volunteer
spirit. It is easy to tell from these pictures of the joy these visits bring to
the members of River Ridge every week. Thank you Dawn - we will certainly miss
seeing you each week and best wishes for your new life in Tennessee.
