  • Another great day to look forward to this month is Valentine’s Day! To help celebrate how special our pets are to us, we will stay at the shelter 4-7 pm, Thursday, 14 February for our “Sweetheart Social.” If you find it difficult to stop by the shelter because of your work schedule, come by on Valentine’s Day to potentially find that new four-footed sweetheart for your family. And even if it isn’t the right time for a new pet feel free to stop by just to enjoy some refreshments, say hi to the staff and our great pets, and you are also always invited to bring your beloved adopted pet back for a visit.

  • Surf the internet and love animals and want to help our shelter?  Then we invite everyone to go to http://www.zootoo.com and sign-up to help us possibly when a MILLION DOLLAR Makeover for our shelter.  Each shelter that amasses over 25,000 points by March 2008 will go into the hat for this makeover. If not the makeover we could possibly win a cash prize up to $5000.  The more you do on this website, the more points we get and it is fun to boot!  So join other pet lovers and help us be in the running for a million-dollar makeover of our shelter.  They say we have to be on TV and such if we win and we said – no problem, so believe me, we will invite everyone to join us for that TV appearance!

PetsMart Volunteers Needed!!

Saturday adoptions at PETsMART in the Shoppes at EastChase in Montgomery & Prattville

We are looking for more volunteers to help, usually on a Saturday, adopting out shelter pups, dogs, kittens and cats from PetSmart. We are generally there from 11-4 on Saturdays. We hope to start doing Fridays as well, so if that works better for you, great!

This is a lot of fun and for those of us who might be suffering from a little burn out, it is invigorating to see these needy "babies" go to great homes.  At PetSmart, people often end up lining up to get some of these kids!

If you haven't done this before, you will be paired with someone who has to learn the (easy) paperwork and to start learning the answers to some of the common questions folks have.  There is a vet clinic in PetSmart and their staff is also wonderful and very helpful.

If you need information , or would like to volunteer for, please call or email the shelter at  567-3377 hselco@bellsouth.net  OR  Charline Pope  at popecharlie@russellcorp.com

PetSmart has proven to be a wonderful outlet for our critters. We are so grateful to their commitment to helping the homeless animals.  And it's just a GREAT store too!

If you'd like to volunteer for any of these events, please call or stop by the shelter to let us know what you'd like to help with.

Proceeds from all these events go back to take care of the hundreds of animals that come through our doors each month. Also, all donations are tax deductible and greatly appreciated.
