PETsMART Volunteers Needed!!

Saturday adoptions at the PETsMART in Prattville.

We are always looking for volunteers to help us with our Saturday adoptions of our shelter pups, dogs, kittens and cats at the Prattville PETsMART. We are generally there from noon - 4 pm every Saturday, though on rare occasions we do have to cancel due to other competing requirements on our limited staff or during major holiday weekends.  We will always do our best to notify our volunteers of any changes, but if you are volunteering, please do a quick double check with us on Friday via phone or email just in case

Helping with adoptions is a lot of fun as you help us find loving and lifetime homes for our wonderful pets.  While our kitties get to stay in the PETsMART cat adoption center even when we are not there (the great staff at PETsMART helps adopt our kitties when we are not there), on Saturdays we take puppies and one or two adult dogs depending on how many volunteers we have to help us.  You will find that it can be a very busy and fun day as people stop by to see our "babies" and ask lots of great questions.  With your help, we will all work to match the right pet with the right family, ensuring it is a good fit for all concerned since adopting a new pet is a major commitment and one we take very seriously.

Helping at our adoption days will involve playing with our pets, talking to the public, helping the public wanting to visit with a pet, keeping track of each pet, cleaning up after those little "accidents," and just generally having fun.

We are generally indoors, so no worry about dressing for the weather though during the spring and fall PETsMART Adoption Weekends we may be outside under tents.

Although we are primarily at the Prattville PETsMART, with more experienced volunteers we might be able to also do adoptions at the Montgomery PETsMART.  This is a goal of ours since getting our pets out of the shelter to off-site adoption locations can increase adoptions because many people find coming to a shelter simply overwhelming.

If you are new to volunteering as an Adoption Volunteer our staff member or another more experienced volunteer will be there to help you learn how our adoption process works.  If you continue with us and want to get more involved, we will be happy to teach you the paperwork and how to answer many of the questions we are asked about our shelter, adoptions, pets in general, etc.

For more information please contact us by calling us at 334-567-3377, email our Director, Rea Cord, at hselco@bellsouth.net , or email our Volunteer Coordinator, Charline Pope, at popecharlie@russellcorp.com.

And even if you can't volunteer, if you do shop at PETsMART, please thank them for all they do to help shelters across the country by making their stores available for adoption events and for making the Cat Adoption centers available to shelters.  We can't thank PETsMART enough as they have not only helped us adopt literally hundreds of our pets through their store(s), but provide tremendous support in so many other ways throughout the year.

THANK YOU PETsMART!!!!

If you'd like to volunteer for any of these events, please call or stop by the shelter to let us know what you'd like to help with.

Proceeds from all these events go back to take care of the hundreds of animals that come through our doors each month. Also, all donations are tax deductible and greatly appreciated.
