Six-year old Elle Tice from Millbrook blessed our animals on 9
May 2008 by bringing us quite a mountain of supplies that she asked her friends
to give her for her sixth birthday party on 26 April. We were most impressed but
the amount of supplies she donated to help our animals and we just love having
our young supporters think of us like this. So many thanks to Elle and her
parents Chuck & Shelley for showing Elle about selfless giving at such a young
age.
We want to let everyone know of the awesome supplies we received from the AP
Biology students from the Loveless Academic Magnet Program (L.A.M.P.) High
School in Montgomery at the end of April 2008. Under the leadership of their
teacher, Mr. Robert Summers, his three AP Biology classes competed to see who
could raise the most money and supplies for our shelter. By doing this they not
only learned about selfless service, but also learned about the reasons that
animal shelters exist and how to help these shelters in their daily fight to
care for hundreds of animals at a time. Our board President, Lucia Penland, had
to make two trips to get everything and these pics show our second trip to get
all of the newspapers and aluminum cans for our recycling program (which also
brings in much needed money to help our animals). These students donated the
following amazing amount of supplies to our shelter:
2600 lbs of dry dog and puppy food
290 lbs of dry cat/kitten food
150 lbs of cat litter
825 lbs of newspapers
255 lbs of aluminum cans
6 gallons of bleach
26 blankets
88 bath towels
21 bottles of peroxide and rubbing alcohol
10 lbs of dog and cat treats
Lots of cat and dog toys
AND $125 in cash donations!
Pretty inspiring we would say!
So thank you to Mr. Summers for being such an inspiring teacher and to all of
the great students who worked so hard to help our animals as your efforts have
truly helped us help our animals!

On Friday, 1 May 2008 we were lucky to again have some of the
great students from Edgewood Academy, Elmore come help us with our animals in
celebration of May Day WorkDay. With their help lots of our dogs got baths,
walks and some great play time. We are always happy to see these students as
they are simply super supporters of our shelter and all of our animals!

And yet another young supporter showed her business skills to
our animals’ benefit. Carlee Robertson, age 7, from Wetumpka Elementary School,
bought drinks with her own money and then sold them at her mom's yard sale. She
quickly turned $10 into $36 and donated that to help our animals on Saturday, 26
April. Not only do we think that is just awesome, we think Carlee has a very
bright business future in front of her! Thanks Carlee!

This shows one very entrepreneurial Girl Scout troop who visited
our shelter and animals on 1 April 2008 and left us with a check for $253.26
that they earned from their Cookie Sales! That’s a lot of cookies! We want
everyone to know how generous these girls from Holtville, Troop # 9206, Girl
Scouts of Southern Alabama were to our animals and thank them for helping us is
such a big way!

This mountain of donations came to us from the children and
parents of the Montgomery Seventh Day Adventist Church School on Atlanta Highway
in Montgomery on 27 March. With help from members of the Montgomery Kennel Club
and their very sociable dogs, this very attentive group learned a lot about
safety around dogs. They also were able to ask lots of great questions and
learned about the various breeds present with the help of Susan Barmby and
Rosemary Coyle and their Smooth Coated Collie; Michaela Starke and her 4 pound
Chihuahua. At the end of the evening, these super children and their parents
sent us home with this SUV load of great supplies. Thanks so much to Joyce
Bolard, Sandi Spady and Jodie vanBeukering for making this happen and for having
such wonderful children and parents who want to learn about and help us care for
our critters!

Kudos to Ms. Palmer’s 4H group at the Wetumpka
Intermediate School who gathered and donated a large amount of supplies for our
shelter on 26 March 2008. These donated supplies help us stretch our always
limited funding so that we can do even more for our animals and are greatly
appreciated. Ms. Palmer’s 4H class does this for us every year and we are truly
grateful that they keep us as an organization worthy of their efforts.

On Sat, 1 March, the animals of the Humane Society of Elmore
County in Wetumpka received lots of playtime and attention from all of these
great young ladies from the “Acteens” of Ridgecrest Baptist Church and
Macon-East Montgomery Academy. Many thanks to all of the girls for supporting
our shelter so well and taking their time to spend quality time with our
animals!
One of the things that can make us feel very humble is to receive donations from
our youngest supporters. On Saturday, three-year old Caden Smith of Wetumpka
brought us a load of supplies he had gathered “just for our animals.” We
couldn’t have been more impressed and are very happy to count Caden as one of
our super supporters. Thanks Caden!

Brian Bozeman also honored us by asking for shelter supplies from all of his
friends instead of presents for his birthday bash. We think that is just awesome
and not only thank Brian for thinking of us like this, but for all of his
friends who came through in a big way! These kinds of donations go a long way to
helping us help our animals and are really and truly appreciated. Thanks again
Brian!

We enjoyed a great visit by these wonderful children from the
Wetumpka Cavalry Baptist Church on 13 Nov ‘07. This is our future and we love it
that they chose us to spend part of their day with.

We want to thank all the great children and adults from the
Wallsboro United Methodist Church who visited our shelter and our animals on
Saturday, September 22, 2007. We are pretty sure all the people had a great time
visiting our pets, and know our pets enjoyed all the extra attention and the
supplies they brought with them. Thanks so much for taking some time on a
Saturday to spend time with our wonderful animals!
We want to thank the great young people from the First United
Methodist Church in Wetumpka who came to our shelter on Monday, 18 June 2007 to
help us out. While they left a bit dirtier than they came, everyone had a lot of
fun and helped us out by giving baths to puppies and giving love and attention
to lots of our other great pets. By the end of their visit our shelter was a lot
quieter as the dogs were pooped out from all the play and attention they
received! Thanks again and we look forward to more of their visits in the
future.

Mr. Collin Horne from Millbrook turned five years old in March and started
his charitable giving future off with a bang by having his friends bring
supplies for our shelter instead of gifts. We are certainly impressed and
imagine we will see a lot of Collin over the years since he must really love
animals.
Thanks Collin and Happy Belated Birthday!

Jacob Donaley of Eclectic, 6 Years old, collected quarters by
doing
odd jobs, and brought $50 to the shelter. This is the 2nd time he has
done this.
Update – Jacob is continuing to be one of our staunchest
supporters as he brought us $50 in quarters he collected in mid-March. Thank you
so much Jacob!

We want to thank Mr. Will Thompson who also
donated $60 and supplies to our shelter from his eleventh birthday party in Feb
‘07. This is the second year that Will asked his friends to bring supply items
for our shelter to his birthday party instead of gifts and we certainly feel
blessed to have such a remarkable young man thinking of us like this.

For the second time this year these wonderful students of Mr.
Robert Summers at the Loveless Academic Magnet Program (LAMP) High School, Jeff
Davis Ave. in Montgomery, Alabama show off the tremendous amount of food and
supplies they gathered for our shelter. They first filled our van on 23 Jan ’07
and then turned around and gathered all of this for us to get on 15 Feb ’07. We
would say their donation campaign is going like gangbusters with us as the lucky
benefactors! We want to thank Mr. Summers and all of the students for
demonstrating such tremendous spirit and generosity to help our animals. Keep up
the great work!!!

On 2 Feb ’07, these wonderful children from the First Baptist
Church of Wetumpka Child Care Center donated lot of great supplies and $81 to
our shelter. The Shelter Director, Rea Cord, also spent some time talking to the
children about safety around animals. Many thanks to the parents who gave bought
supplies and gave money for their children to donate and we also want to thank
Ms. Sharon Lyle for setting up our visit, and all the teachers who helped bring
all their children together to learn how to be safe around animals.

Seven year old Hannah Golden, Wetumpka, AL is picture perfect
after bringing us supplies she gathered for our shelter on 23 Jan ’07. Hannah
loves animals and we know we will see a lot more of her in our future. Thanks
Hannah!

These wonderful students of Mr. Robert Summers at the Loveless
Academic Magnet Program (LAMP) High School, Jeff Davis Ave. in Montgomery,
Alabama show off the tremendous amount of food and supplies they gathered for
our shelter. This was on 23 Jan ’07 and they tell us this is only from the first
two weeks of their donation campaign! Next time looks like we will have to take
both a truck and a trailer! We want to thank Mr. Summers and all of the students
for demonstrating such tremendous spirit and generosity to help our animals.
Keep up the great work!!!

On 16 Jan ’07, the students of the Eclectic Middle School
Science Club, under the direction of Ms. Tracy, presented a check for $347.74 to
our shelter. This was from their “Quarter Campaign” where they collect money and
get to choose the charity of their choice to donate to. The Science Club members
are faithful supporters of our shelter and we want to thank all of their members
and all those who donated to their fund drive for being so generous in helping
our animals.

On 12 Jan ’07, these super 3rd graders from Ms. Kelly’s class at
the Wetumpka Elementary School donated us an assortment of much needed supplies
to our shelter. What great kids!! Thanks so much!!

Six year old Jacob Donahey from Eclectic knows how to start our
2007 off in a great way as he brought us in 160 ($40) quarters he collected for
the animals of the Humane Society of Elmore County. Jacob says he is going to
keep doing this to help the pets. We think Jacob’s parents have a lot to be
proud of and we are thrilled that he has chosen to support us in such a
wonderful way. Thanks Jacob!

On 19 December 2006 these great 5th & 6th graders from Edgewood
Academy, Elmore, Alabama brought us a huge amount of supplies they had gathered
for our shelter, then had lots of fun visiting with our animals. It is wonderful
to see such generosity starting so young and these students are some of our
strongest supporters. Thanks from all of the staff and especially our pets!

Miss Brittany Stewart showed us how much she cares by collecting
supplies and $11.49 in donations for our animals and bringing them to us on
Saturday, 23 September 2006. We think the future is quite bright when we have
such wonderful youngsters thinking of our shelter and animals like this. Thank
you Brittany!
8 September 2006 – Many thanks to Ms. Brewer and all the members
of the Edgewood Academy Art Honor Society for bringing us lots and lots of
supplies for our animals today. These kinds of donations go a long way in
helping us care for all of our animals. Thanks!!
On 11 July 2006 Miss Becky Allbritton brought us a super load of
much needed supplies for our shelter that she purchased with her own birthday
money. Becky also adopted one of our great dogs last year and as you can tell
from the picture, Sampson looks more than happy with his ‘mom’. With supporters
like her in our corner we have a bright future! Thanks Becky!!

Hello,
I am Becky Allbritton and I am 12 years old. I donated some supplies to your
shelter today. I said I would send you my pictures. The dog is my dog that my
family and I adopted from your shelter last September. His name is Sampson and
he was on your urgent list! We have really enjoyed him and he has come a long
way since when we got him! Ever since we got him I have looked at your shelter
website very many times! It is very helpful, it is GREAT! I really love animals
and wanted to help! I saved my money from my birthday and other times! I wish
you the best luck in getting them adopted!

Rea Cord, Director, Humane Society of
Elmore County is thrilled to receive a $100 donation from Tensley Batson of Girl
Scout Troop #338, Girl Scouts of South Central Alabama. Tensley demonstrated
true Girl Scout selflessness with her donation from funds raised through the
Girl Scout Cookie fund. Tensley is the last member of Troop #338 and the Humane
Shelter staff and troop leader, Deborah Batson, wish her the best of luck in all
of her academic endeavors.
April & Ashley Yates stopped by yesterday
with a donation of $152.15 they had collected for us and a bunch of cell
phones for our recycle program. They also rescued an eight week old kitten
from a parking lot, so I’d say they hit a home run with helping animals and
us!

On 22 May, these great boys came to our shelter to present us a $325 check
from the Student Council of the Wetumpka Elementary School. They collected
this money from classmates and picked us as the lucky beneficiary of their
awesome generosity. Many thanks to all the students and to the Student
Council for all their hard work on our behalf. Pictured from left to right
are Matthew Palmer - Student Council member; Chase Roberts – President,
Hunter Stubbs – Treasurer, Garrett Gibson – Reporter.

Students, parents and teachers from the Holtville Middle
School, pre-Beta Club 5th graders brought some supplies, a donation and had
a great time playing with the pets.

This is Amber Sprayberry's picture from her sixth birthday party. Her friends
helped her collect much needed supplies for the animal shelter.
On 17 March 2006 members of the Edgewood Academy Beta Club
brought a tremendous amount of donated supplies to our shelter. The students
and faculty of Edgewood Academy are very generous in their support for our
shelter and we look forward to their visits. Our animals also look forward
to their visits since they get that much more love and attention on those
days. We want to also thank the members of the Edgewood Academy Spanish Club
who donated $100 to help us care for our animals. These students not only
obviously love animals but they are setting the standard for selflessness
and generosity and we are very appreciative for their hard work and support.
News from our younger supporters:
Ashley and April Yates have been ardent supporters of our shelter for quite
a while now and are two very dynamic and impressive young ladies. They have
helped organize supply drives for us in their school and recently came up
with this great idea. They have formed a club named ‘Petations’ which stands
for ‘pet donations’ and their goal is to raise money and gather supplies to
help us care for our shelter animals. So far they have four other members -
Daniel Contreras, Brooke Swindall, Kelsey Anthony and Rachel Gilbert. They
are hoping to grow their club but to also keep it manageable for them at
around 15 members between the ages of eight and thirteen. If you are
interested in helping the Petations Club, contact them at
Catlovdg@aol.com
. Thank you to all members of the Petations Club!!

shelter and
visit with the animals for a while. They brought us all kinds of goodies
we truly need. |
